Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – CamCare Support Services
What is home care, and how can it help my family?
Home care (also known as care-at-home or domiciliary care) means receiving support from professional carers in the comfort of your own house, rather than moving into a care facility. It helps you or your loved one live safely, independently, and with dignity in familiar surroundings. A trained caregiver comes to your home to assist with day-to-day tasks, personal care, medication, and other needs – so you can continue living at home while getting the support you require.
What home care services do you offer at CamCare?
We provide a wide range of in-home care services tailored to each person’s needs. Our services include:
Personal Care: Respectful help with daily routines like bathing, dressing, grooming, and using the toilet.
Medication Support: Prompting and assisting with medications to ensure you take the right doses at the right times.
Meal Preparation: Planning and cooking nutritious meals based on your dietary needs and preferences.
Light Housekeeping: Help with tidying up, laundry, and other small household tasks to keep your home clean and safe.
Companionship: Friendly social interaction and company to brighten your day and reduce loneliness.
Mobility Assistance: Support with moving around the house or outside, ensuring you stay steady on your feet (for example, help getting in/out of bed or going for a walk).
Specialist Dementia Care: Nurse-led care for those living with dementia or other cognitive conditions – focusing on individualized routines, reassurance, and maintaining independence.
If you have any specific needs, let us know – we tailor our care plans to each person. From a few hours a week to daily visits or overnight support, we’re flexible to what works best for you.
Do you offer companionship and social support (like outings or errands)?
Yes. In addition to personal care, CamCare provides companionship and community support to help clients stay socially engaged. Our carers can accompany you to medical appointments, social outings, or even local community groups and events. They also assist with everyday activities such as grocery shopping and running errands around town. Sometimes just having a friendly, trusted companion to chat with regularly can greatly reduce loneliness and improve well-being. We’re happy to take walks together, visit local parks or cafés, and support you in hobbies or club activities – whatever helps you live life to the fullest.
Who can receive care from CamCare? Is it only for older adults?
CamCare supports adults of all ages – not only seniors. We’re a nurse-led, family-run provider equipped to help older people and younger adults who need extra assistance. Our clients include elderly individuals who need help at home, adults living with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses, people managing mental health needs or learning difficulties, and those who may be isolated and need companionship. In short, anyone aged 18 or over in our service area who requires support to live safely and independently could be eligible for our care. Whether you need ongoing daily care or just a few visits for short-term support, we will tailor our services to your situation.
What areas do you cover?
We provide home care across South Lanarkshire and East Renfrewshire in Scotland. In South Lanarkshire, we serve communities including Cambuslang, East Kilbride, Hamilton, Rutherglen, Lanark, and surrounding towns. In East Renfrewshire, we cover areas such as Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton Mearns, Barrhead, Eaglesham, and nearby communities. If you’re in or around any of these locales, we can arrange for care in your home. (Not sure if we cover your area? Just ask – we’re happy to let you know if we can accommodate your location.)
Can I get help from the council or NHS to pay for home care? What funding options are there?
Yes, depending on your circumstances there are funding options in Scotland that can help with home care costs. In Scotland, everyone over 65 who is assessed as needing personal care is entitled to Free Personal Care, which means the local council covers the cost of personal care tasks. Adults aged 18 and over can also request a care needs assessment from their council’s social work department. If the assessment finds you need support (and depending on your income/savings), the council may fund some or all of your care through Self-Directed Support (SDS). SDS is a program that gives you control over your care budget – you might receive funds directly to pay a provider of your choice (Option 1), or the council can arrange services for you (Option 3), among other options. CamCare is more than happy to work with clients using council-provided budgets or direct payments under SDS. We can even guide you through the process of applying for funding or understanding what support you’re entitled to. (Note: Healthcare from the NHS is generally free but tends to cover medical needs; ongoing personal care at home is usually arranged via the council or privately.)
How do I get started with CamCare?
Getting started is simple. Here’s how the process works:
Contact Us: Reach out by phone or through our website to request a consultation or ask about services. Our team will gladly talk through your needs and schedule a visit at a convenient time.
Free Care Consultation: We’ll arrange a free, no-obligation assessment meeting (at your home or by phone) to discuss your situation in detail. A CamCare nurse or senior team member will get to know you and your family, answer any questions, and understand what support you’re looking for.
Personalised Care Plan: After the consultation, we work with you to create a tailored care plan. This plan will outline the types of support you want, the preferred schedule (e.g. which days/times for visits), and any personal preferences or goals. We always put your needs and choices at the centre of the plan.
Begin Care (Quickly and Smoothly): Once you’re happy with the plan, we match you with a compatible caregiver and can begin services very quickly – often there are no long waiting lists or delays. We’ll start the agreed visits and continue checking in with you to make sure everything is going well. Our goal is to make the whole process as easy and comforting as possible.
From the first phone call to the first care visit can be a matter of days, not weeks, if you’re ready to proceed. And remember, the initial consultation is free and there’s no obligation – we want you to have the information you need to make the best decision for your family.
